The history of Blackwater Castle in Castletownroche in County Cork, extends back to the 8th and 9th centuries where the ancient fuses beautifully with the modern, in this exquisitely renovated castle. Blackwater Castle is located on a protected nature reserve of over 50 acres of woodland in a spectacular location, overlooking the forested valley of the River Awbeg in the heart of the Blackwater Valley. It is home to red squirrels, otters, bats, eagles and peregrine falcons.
Fish in the private river, stroll through the walled kitchen garden or avail of the extensive sporting opportunities in the nearby Ballyhoura region which include, mountain biking, golfing and hiking.
