Slí Arann Mhor (Arranmore Island) - Sli Dhun na nGall

About

Beginning and ending at Arranmore Island’s ferry port, the Slí Árainn Mhór - Arranmore Island Loop takes five hours to complete.

Moderate in grade, this loop follows tarred road, bog road and green track as it circles the idyllic island. Arranmore is the largest island off the Donegal coast and this 17.8km loop treats walkers to breathtaking views in all directions.

The trail brings you to the wild and uninhabited interior and western side of the island, as well as through the houses concentrated along the southern and eastern sides. The loop also skirts the eastern shoulder of Cranagarn and the southern slopes of Frenchman’s Hill.

Perched by the Donegal Gaeltacht, many people on Árainn Mhór are fluent Irish speakers. Looking for refreshment after your trail? There are a handful of pubs on the island itself, while a ferry ride away in the fishing village of Burtonport you’ll find yet more welcoming spots.
