Wellington Memorial

About
Arthur Wellesley, later to become the Duke of Wellington, was born on Merrion Street in Dublin City and spent his early formative years in Trim, County Meath. For much of his childhood, he lived in Dangan Castle on the Trim Road, north of Summerhill. He is remembered for being a superb military strategist and ending the Napoleonic Wars when he defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
The column of the memorial was designed by local architect James Bell, and the statue of the Duke which stands on top was sculpted by Thomas Kirk.
